Peanut Butter and Bananas Treats: 3 ways

Hello Modern Dog Mom's!

I am excited to bring you this video where I show you how to make peanut butter and banana dog treats, 3 ways. I know I have done similar things in the past, but I always love to show what I have learned, and what can be improved. Plus, me and the dogs were having a fun day and I wanted to share that with my readers!

For this video I used the following items:

*3 ripe bananas

* 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter

* 2 packages of apple oatmeal, pre-made

*1 large bowl

* 1 spoon

* 1 paper plate

* foil

* Recycled dog food containers. For this step, you can substitute out small cups such as Dixie cups.

Rosie Blog: Day 1

Rose's Mommy went out of town for a few days so I am taking care of her myself and with her big brother, Indy the Lab. She is having a hard time without her Mommy so here is her adventures. Rose is a pretty fun dog, and she has a lot of spunk! Here are here logs...

Rose's Blog: Dog Date, Day One:

Rose's Mommy left for a few days yesterday. However, she left without saying goodbye to her in an attempt to make the whole thing less stressful for the dog. Rose ran around the house and cried for 4 hours. Rose then laid down on the couch in a pile of sadness. That sadness didn't last forever and it soon turned into pure puppy rage! 

 In the middle of the night, Rose kicked open my half closed door and trotted into the room. She jumped on my bed where she proceeded to kick Indy's butt!! She then gave up on life and finally wen to sleep. When I got up for the morning, I go to the bathroom. (Hey, I'm human and everyone goes!) Rose stayed in bed but Indy always follows me everywhere. All of a sudden, puppy rage kicks in and she, the little 7 pound puppy, kicks open the bathroom door and walks into the room and stared us both down! She then let out the loudest bark I have ever heard and took off running down the hall. Only to come back a few moments later, lean in and look into the room, give me the stink eye, and leave again. 

I then took Rose outside to do her own business. She trotted up to the fence to do what she needed to do! However, I try to keep her away from the fence because the neighbors (who are very nice) have 5 dogs and I don't want Rosie to get into any sort of trouble. Rose doesn't like that rule and her little body turns very heavy when she wants to do what she wants to do. She lugs me over to the fence and does her thing...but we can see the neighbor's dogs watching us through the windows. They are barking, but Rose does the international symbol for, "what are you going to do about it, bro?" Then the dogs stop barking while she gives them the evil eyed star down. Rose waits several more moments before breaking the stare and allows me to take her inside the house where she  demanded food, and to play with her ball. 

Rose just participated in her very first Snap Chat with Mommy, and Mommy's friends. (The people that she likes to bark at on the phone.) She did a good job, but her rage shined through! She misses her Mommy and is taking it out on everyone. Currently, she has exhausted herself so much that she is finally sleeping! 

More to come later, but the first few hours has been a challenge. Rose is a strong pup, and she will have many adventures to come in the following days! 

Banana Treats Two Ways

Hello Modern Dog Parents! Today, I have not one, but two recipes for you today. Unfortunately, I lost most of the photos that I was going to use to show you the step by step process so you will have to use your imagination a bit. The first recipe is for puppy ice cream, and the second is for doggy cookies. 

If you want to make both at once like I did, I encourage you to make a bigger batch to start with. Just leave out the flour and add that later when you are ready to start the cookies. 

What you need to make both items:

Ripe Bananas 2 or 3

Oatmeal 

Flour

Plastic or Dixie Cups

Bowl

Spoon 

Peanut Butter, Creamy or Chunky

Plastic Wrap

Rolling Pin

Cookie Cutter

Cookie Sheet

Puppy Ice Cream:

Ripe Bananas: At least 2

Peanut Butter: Up to one cup

Oatmeal: Up to one cup

        First, peel bananas and mush up. I recommend cutting the bananas and then mushing them up in the bowl. Add in the oatmeal, and stir. Next, mix in the peanut butter 1/2 a cup at a time because you may not want to use the whole amount. This is a personal preference but the more you use, the bigger batch it will make, 

        After you stir the ingredients together, get your cups and place them close to your work station. Fill the cups half way full of your mixture and pack it down. You can make several cups with the recipe depending on the size of the cups you are using. I would not use a cup bigger than the size that you would use in the bathroom. 

         Once you have filled your cups, cover the tops with plastic. Place in your freezer for at least an hour or longer depending on your freezer.  These treats will keep for awhile, but I wouldn't have them around longer than a month. This is a great treat for those hot summer days. 

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Treats:

Ripe Bananas: At least 1

Peanut Butter: Up to one cup

Oatmeal: Up to one cup

Flour: Up to two cups

The base of this recipe is the same as the Puppy Ice Cream above. Follow the same steps to prep but slowly add in your flour. Mix the flour in until it starts to stick together to form a dough ball. I suggest that you get your hands in there and mix because you will be able to feel when it is strong enough to start using cookie cutters.

Dust your work area lightly with flour and use a rolling pin to flatten out your dough ball.Choose a cookie cutter and cut out several cookies. This recipe should be enough to make 2 dozen medium sized dog treats. 

Place a non stick pan, or non stick sheet and cook in the stove at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Check your cookies at the 7 minute mark. The end result is going to be slightly crunchy. The thinner the cookie, the more crunchy it will be. 

If you have left over dough, you can always bag it up to use at a later time. However, since there are bananas, you can't keep this stored for very long without using the dough. It will go bad if you don't use it up within a few days. These are very popular treats and very well liked in my household.

*As always, if you are worried about allergies, check with your vet. I am not a vet nor a consultant. It is always better to be safe than sorry. If you aren't sure, don't feed it to your dog! 

DIY Dog Food Take One:

Hello friends!

If you are like me, you have a very picky eater at home who is a dog! Rose does not like anything outside of a cheeseburger. She likes exactly different kinds of food and both are dirt cheap which is great! However, I am always either running out, or more likely, she is going on a strike because she hates her food for a few days. It's very hard! 

I have tried to make my own dog food in the attempt to always have something on hand that Rose will eat. I used very simple ingredients, and the results were...well....there is a reason that this is called take one.

Dogs can eat many different things but make sure you are not feeding them something toxic like chocolate, onions, garlic, and much more. Please see my previous blogs that outline what your dogs should never eat. If your dog has allergies, then speak to your vet before making any food for them. I am using this recipe that was recommend by a vet, but your pet's needs may vary. 

You will need:

1 cup white rice

1 cup peas

1 cup lean meat

1/3 cup cut carrots (optional) 

Heat and mix all together and serve. You can make a bigger batch and store in the fridge for up to a week. 

I did this and presented this to Rose and here was her reaction....

So, right now, Rose is not too thrilled with this food. I am not sure why. It has been cooled to room temp and mixed well. She is super picky so I might try another type of meat like turkey to see if she will eat it. For the record, Indy stole this food from Rose about 10 minutes after this photo was taken and he loved it!

I will try another route next time and post the results!

Just to be clear....

Hello Fellow Dog Mom's and Dad's,

Over the last few weeks, I have gotten a few tags on Facebook about another blogger with a very similar name. I guess they had a website that has been up, but went down and now is on the way back up again. They seem to be upset because I am using this title. However... I was using this for some time now.

Well, just to be clear....

I have been doing this for awhile, at least 2 years now. The Facebook page that I have to promote this site is new and has only been up since December this year. When I searched Facebook, there was not anything similar that was titled close to my "The Modern Dog Mom." This is the first that I have seen that there is something similar.

There isn't much that I can do about this, nor do I want to since I have been using this name and happily so.  There are many several places out there with similar names, but they are not the same. Example, Burger Shake, Steak and Shake,  Top 5, Top 5 All Time, and so on and so on. If you have come to my site, I hope that you enjoy it and will keep coming back. I feel there is enough room on the internet for all of us, and I love what I do here at my blog.

Dogs are a huge part of my life and they make me happy. I want to share that happiness with you and I will continue as long as I can!
