Will this food hurt my dog?

As pet parents we want to spoil our dogs anyway that we can. Sometimes, we feel tempted to give them some of our own food. Even though it comes from a loving place the food you are wanting to feed your dog could be poison. We must remember that even though we love our dogs like they are human they don't digest like one does. Here is a list of some foods you will need to avoid to help your dog have a long, happy, and healthy doggy life. If your dog has gotten a hold of any of these foods and eaten them please call your vet right away. You can also call Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.

1. Chocolate: Chocolate is deadly to a dog. I have read that people believe that a small quantity of chocolate isn't that harmful to a dog. A small amount may not kill them, but it will make them very sick. Why put them through harmful pain, vomiting, and the poops when you can just avoid giving dogs any sort of chocolate. Keep your chocolate treats away from your dog so you won't have the chance of accidental ingestion. If you find that your dog has eaten chocolate, you will need to consult your vet right away. This isn't just a warning for milk and dark chocolate. White chocolate can be just as harmful. It's better to just stay away from chocolate for your dog completely.

2. Avocados: Many vets have found dangerous allergies linked to dogs and Avocados. There is also a toxin called Persin that will kill dogs if enough Avocados are eaten. The whole plant is dangerous to the dog so if you grow them, keep them away from the bark and the leaves. Don't let your dog go through the trash and eat the pit because it can cause them to choke. The skin of the avocado also has the dangerous toxins. Never give your dog guacamole.

3. Alcohol, Coffee, Tea, Red Bull, or any Caffeinated drinks: This should be a no brainer, but this is an issue. Dogs do not handle things the same way humans do. Their livers are much smaller so giving a dog any sort of alcohol or caffeine is like digging them their own grave. It cause all sort of issues including vomiting, poops, liver damage, dehydration, depression, heart failure, and that's just some of the issues. If you are wanting to give these items to your dog you should probably rethink having a dog in the first place.

4. Grapes and Raisins:  These may seem like a healthy treat, but not for your dog. Grapes and raisins have been linked to kidney disease in dogs. Symptoms include vomiting, depression, and becoming lethargic. You will see these symptoms in as little as 24 hours.

5. Milk Products: This may not be fatal to dogs have allergies to milk products. They get stomach issues but it will also cause them to become itchy.

6. Macadamia Nuts: THESE ARE FATAL TO DOGS! As little as 6 can kill a dog. Make sure you never feed your dog the nuts, or anything with macadamia nuts in it. Your dog can become paralyzed, have difficulty breathing, and eventually will die.

7. Raw  Meat, Eggs, or Fish: Just like humans, dogs should not eat raw foods. There are too many dangerous things that can happen such as E coli. Eating raw foods could kill a dog in less than two weeks.

8. Sugary food, Candy, Gum: Anything with a lot of sugar can shut a dog's system down, quickly. A small amount of cake, or candy can instantly make a dog sick. Gum can cause a lot of problems with digestion.

9. Garlic and Onion: This includes any type of powder or spice. This has been linked to upset tummies and problems with the pancreas.

10. Salt: Too much salt can lead to excessive drinking, tumors, tremors, and could cause death. Try to limit your dog's salt intake by keeping them away from food like chips, and pretzels.

I just named this site Dog Mom because I have met so many of you out there in the world who have a need and a want for more information!

It's hard to a Dog Mom today because the price of a Vet can be outstanding. I like to give tips for other dog parents that may help them save money. This will come from my own personal experiences or from tips from former vets. We all want what is best for our dogs but running to the Vet for every little thing is not only unrealistic but can be extremely costly as well. I want to help you. Remember, you know your dog better than anyone. Be their voice when they can't talk. If you feel they need medical attention by no means wait. Call a Vet's office now and get them the help they may need!!!

I tried to go into business for myself selling all natural dog treats. They were a big hit but selling them online was almost impossible. I find that sharing the tips I have on making these treats is just as rewarding as selling them. I will be making a dog treat cookbook that will be available for purchase on this site. Keep your eye out for it! I also like to make my own dog shampoos, dog whips, and if I have time, my own dog food. I like to know that the treats I make my dogs are natural and no danger of being recalled like so many products are today.

I'm always looking for new and fun products for my dogs. I will review anything from toys, to food, to places to board your fur babies. I will review products I use to make dog treats, and give lists of where to find all these goodies. I will also share ways to save for your doggy purchases!

Welcome to the blog and I look forward to sharing my love for dogs with everyone here on this page!! Don't forget to check out the other pages on this blog and leave comments.
