My first video of making dog cookies

Hello friends,

Here is my very first attempt of making a video for showing how to make dog treats. I know it's not super great, but it is fun! That is the important part. These are some of my dogs favorite cookies! It is very simple. All you need is 3 ingredients which is flour, peanut butter and applesauce.

For this purpose I used it's all purpose flour, creamy peanut butter, and unsweetened apple sauce. You can use any type of peanut butter that you like, but I prefer creamy. The flour is also your choice. If you know that your dog has an allergy, then please use what is appropriate for them. The unsweetened apple sauce is my preference. There is already natural sugar in peanut butter, so I like to use the applesauce without the extra sweeter. You also have the option of adding your own twist, such as other flavors. I like to add a dash of cinnamon.

I haven't named these treats yet, so I am open to some discussion here....

Enjoy my video!! Please excuse the quality since this is my first time!

Safe Holiday's For the Pups

As the holiday season approaches, there are a few things that you want to keep in mind to help keep your fur kids healthy and safe. Many of these things are common sense but it doesn't hurt to have some reminders. In fact, it can be very helpful, especially when there is so much stress going on during the holiday season!

Image result for dog in the snowIt is that time of year when the temps are dropping. No matter where you live, this can become dangerous for your pets. Please bring your pets indoors when the it is cold and the weather becomes harsh. It is not only the right thing to do, but the legal thing to do. In many states, you can get fined, or even serve time in jail for not taking care of your animals during the cold. If you don't normally keep your animal indoors, make a designated area for them if you don't want them in certain rooms like the bedroom. You can put your old baby gates to use, or make your own make shift barrier to keep them in a spare room, the kitchen or part of the living room. Give them a blanket, towel, or pillow so they have a place to sleep. If you are worried about accidents, just be prepared with things to clean it up. After all, as annoying as an accident is, it's better than your dog freezing to death or suffering from frostbite! The thing is, you have an animal, and they are going to have an accident from time to time. They can get sick, or throw up just like humans. You don't get ride of a human or punish them because of an accident, you help them and move on!

Some of the most lovely things about Christmas time is the plants! They are very beautiful and make wonderful gifts! However, a few of them are actually toxic to dogs and you need to make sure your furry friend avoids contact with them. For example, the poinsettia is very pretty, but can toxic to dogs. If the leaves are ingested, the dog could become very sick with vomiting, diarrhea, and can even die. They can also develop a skin rash or allergic reaction. Keep these plants away from your pets to be on the safe side.

Another plant to keep away from your pet is that all time favorite excuse for a kiss, mistletoe. There are many different varieties of mistletoe, but all of them can cause a hazardous reaction in your dogs if eaten. These could vary from becoming sick, to drooling, to seizures and even death. You need to get your dog to the vet right away if they eat any mistletoe. You are better off getting the fake kind and enjoy a kiss, not a very sick puppy!

Keep in mind that plants are not the only toxins to your dogs. Sugar, chocolate, garlic, grapes, raisins, onions, and alcohol are some of the items that can make them very sick, or that can kill your dog. Do not feed them any bones from a bird such as a chicken, turkey, or other poultry as much as you may want to. These bones are very brittle and can splinter causing holes being puncher in your dogs throat or organs. It's best to keep the ham bone away from them as well because the size could be detrimental. If you aren't sure that the bone is safe for your dog, don't give it to them.

Choking can happen at any time, but the odds are greater during the holiday season. There are many things that are't normally around such as scrapes of wrapping paper, tape, plastic, or packing peanuts. Small toys, food, and other items can be just as dangerous. Here are a few charts to follow if you suspect your dog is choking. Don't forget to get your dog to the vet as soon as possible to access any damage.

Please make yourself comfortable with these charts. It could save your dog's life. One more thing you can do to keep your dogs safe to have the following numbers programmed into your phone. First, would be your dog's vet and the closest 24 hour emergency clinic. These are also useful numbers to help you out if needed. The first is ASCPA Emergency number and poison control which is 888-426-4435 The second is Pet Poison Helpline which is 1800-213-6680 .I just programmed them into my phone and it just took a moment. Those few seconds can be life saving later. We all know 911, and most likely have our local police number programmed into our cell phones, so why not put these numbers in there as well?

Please remember to use common sense and when in doubt, ask. It doesn't hurt anything to call your vet and ask them questions about the health of your dog. Keep your dogs inside when the weather is too cold and too dangerous. Remember, the health of you dog is your responsibility. To me, it is an honor to be able to share my life with such pure and loving little souls that we only get to share a limited amount of time with. It is my privilege to be able to take care of them because they have given me so much, and they depend on me to keep them safe and happy. It is not too much to ask to keep the animals in your life safe!

Summer Dog Products

Summer Time!!

When you go out this summer, don't forget your fur family loves adventure too!! I am doing some shameless promotion here but there is a good reason for it! These selected products are good for your fur family and of course you want them to be safe and comfortable as you both enjoy those lazy and crazy days of summer!!

First: Protecting your dogs against ticks and fleas is something that we all worry about. You don't want them to suffer bites and scratches. However, many of us are worried about what is in the products that we put on our fur friends. We don't like harsh chemicals for ourselves, let along our dogs. Here is a very simple solution for your: Skin So Soft Original from Avon!

This product is safe for everyone including you, dogs, and cats. It is very safe and it won't harm you or your dog. It is very simple to use. Get a cheap spray bottle from your local dollar store. Fill up the bottle with two parts water, and one part Skin So Soft. Shake the bottle and spray directly onto your dog's fur as needed. I would recommend at least once a day, but if you are doing some outdoor activities give them a spray before you go out, and another one after you get home. Make sure you get from head to tail and of course avoid the face. Spray a bit into your hands and rub the dog's face making sure you keep away from the eyes to avoid any irradiation. Remember to shake the bottle before each use for best results.

Second: When you are out and about with your puppy friend you sometimes are going to have a very long day. You need to plan ahead and make sure that they will have something to eat and drink out of. Here is another product that I sell through Avon that is great for these summer days called Portable Food and Water Set.

This is a 3 piece set that has a collapsible bowl for food, and water, plus a pouch to store these in your backpack. It's pretty cute and easy to tell what bowl is what with the words Hungry and Thirsty written on the outside of the bowls. You can even clip the pouch onto the leash. It's good to remember that your fur friends need to refuel just like you do and this is a simple way to make sure they have what they need.

Third: Now that you have bowls to put the food in, how are you going to carry around their dog food and snacks? Easy, we have the Portable Food and Treat Pouch set of 2!

This set is 2 bags that seal your doggie food and treats in to keep your items fresh, safe to eat, and free from getting all over your bag. You can attach these items to your bags for easy transportation. Fill up your bags with your dog's favorite dry food and of course, their favorite treats! It's very easy to clean these out by just using a dry cloth to whip out the bags.

Fourth: When transporting your dog from one place to another you may worry about pet hair. This is the time of year that your dogs will shed a lot! It is sometimes hard and time consuming to get the hairs out of the backseat of your car. Here is a great solution for you to cover the seat, and cut down the dog hair in your car. Try the Backseat Protector!

It comes with a carrying pouch and it adjust to two different sizes that fit in most cars. It's very simple to use and will help keep the hair in the denim colored protector! It's good for your car, or to bring with you on a road trip with your friends!

Fifth: And just because you need something fun and pretty yourself, check out this pretty necklace that reminds everyone what is close to your heart! These Sterling Silver Pet Mom necklaces come for cats and dogs. It's good to carry your love close to you at all times!

I hope you find something on this list that you can use. No matter what, when you plan to take your fur friends with you this summer please plan ahead. You want to make sure they have food, water, and protection. Make sure that you also protect yourself with sunscreen and stay hydrated as well. I want you and your dogs to have many summers ahead of you to enjoy together!

Doggy Philosophy

Hello friends:

I have decided to start a new segment of my Blog called Doggy Philosophy. I may turn this into a book someday.  My dogs do so fun, crazy, and strange things like I'm sure all of your dogs do as well. I keep recording them via a journal or Facebook and I find that what they do is really a metaphor for things in life. Indy and Rose have the most amazing personalities. I know we, as humans, project our feelings and thoughts onto dogs or many other things. I know they aren't necessary thinking of what we believe they are but sometimes, just sometimes, it seems like they are. My dogs truly are my family, and they spend a lot of time with me. I think we do know on another pretty well.

Here are a few for you to ponder about:

And Rose pooped in my shoes....again....both pairs. This sums up my day.

Indy woke me up with kisses this morning. He then farted on me.

Rose likes to walk across my keyboard. She types things into my search bar. I'm 67% sure she has a gang and this is how she is trying to communicate with them.

Rose chased her tail for a few minutes, caught it, then let it go and went on her happy way. She achieved her goal and moved on.

Indy's day: Wake up, bark, walk, eat, nap, nap, nap, eat, walk, nap, nap, nap, eat, go to bed.

Will this food hurt my dog?

As pet parents we want to spoil our dogs anyway that we can. Sometimes, we feel tempted to give them some of our own food. Even though it comes from a loving place the food you are wanting to feed your dog could be poison. We must remember that even though we love our dogs like they are human they don't digest like one does. Here is a list of some foods you will need to avoid to help your dog have a long, happy, and healthy doggy life. If your dog has gotten a hold of any of these foods and eaten them please call your vet right away. You can also call Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.

1. Chocolate: Chocolate is deadly to a dog. I have read that people believe that a small quantity of chocolate isn't that harmful to a dog. A small amount may not kill them, but it will make them very sick. Why put them through harmful pain, vomiting, and the poops when you can just avoid giving dogs any sort of chocolate. Keep your chocolate treats away from your dog so you won't have the chance of accidental ingestion. If you find that your dog has eaten chocolate, you will need to consult your vet right away. This isn't just a warning for milk and dark chocolate. White chocolate can be just as harmful. It's better to just stay away from chocolate for your dog completely.

2. Avocados: Many vets have found dangerous allergies linked to dogs and Avocados. There is also a toxin called Persin that will kill dogs if enough Avocados are eaten. The whole plant is dangerous to the dog so if you grow them, keep them away from the bark and the leaves. Don't let your dog go through the trash and eat the pit because it can cause them to choke. The skin of the avocado also has the dangerous toxins. Never give your dog guacamole.

3. Alcohol, Coffee, Tea, Red Bull, or any Caffeinated drinks: This should be a no brainer, but this is an issue. Dogs do not handle things the same way humans do. Their livers are much smaller so giving a dog any sort of alcohol or caffeine is like digging them their own grave. It cause all sort of issues including vomiting, poops, liver damage, dehydration, depression, heart failure, and that's just some of the issues. If you are wanting to give these items to your dog you should probably rethink having a dog in the first place.

4. Grapes and Raisins:  These may seem like a healthy treat, but not for your dog. Grapes and raisins have been linked to kidney disease in dogs. Symptoms include vomiting, depression, and becoming lethargic. You will see these symptoms in as little as 24 hours.

5. Milk Products: This may not be fatal to dogs have allergies to milk products. They get stomach issues but it will also cause them to become itchy.

6. Macadamia Nuts: THESE ARE FATAL TO DOGS! As little as 6 can kill a dog. Make sure you never feed your dog the nuts, or anything with macadamia nuts in it. Your dog can become paralyzed, have difficulty breathing, and eventually will die.

7. Raw  Meat, Eggs, or Fish: Just like humans, dogs should not eat raw foods. There are too many dangerous things that can happen such as E coli. Eating raw foods could kill a dog in less than two weeks.

8. Sugary food, Candy, Gum: Anything with a lot of sugar can shut a dog's system down, quickly. A small amount of cake, or candy can instantly make a dog sick. Gum can cause a lot of problems with digestion.

9. Garlic and Onion: This includes any type of powder or spice. This has been linked to upset tummies and problems with the pancreas.

10. Salt: Too much salt can lead to excessive drinking, tumors, tremors, and could cause death. Try to limit your dog's salt intake by keeping them away from food like chips, and pretzels.

The Modern Dog Mom

Introduction:

Welcome to The Modern Dog Mom! I'm very excited to share this blog with you! You may be asking what exactly is a modern dog Mom? Do you have a dog that you love so much that they are not just your pets but your fur baby? Do you find yourself shopping for natural products or wanting to learn how to make your own treats at home? Are you always looking for the best for your dogs because your realize their lifespan is all too short and you want them to live as long and as healthy as possible If you answered yes to any of these, congratulations because you are a modern dog mom! You don't just have to be a Dog Mom to enjoy this site either! You could be a Dog Dad, friend, or just love dogs!! Everyone who loves dogs is welcome here! I just named this site Dog Mom because I have met so many of you out there in the world who have a need and a want for more information!

It's hard to a Dog Mom today because the price of a Vet can be outstanding. I like to give tips for other dog parents that may help them save money. This will come from my own personal experiences or from tips from former vets. We all want what is best for our dogs but running to the Vet for every little thing is not only unrealistic but can be extremely costly as well. I want to help you. Remember, you know your dog better than anyone. Be their voice when they can't talk. If you feel they need medical attention by no means wait. Call a Vet's office now and get them the help they may need!!!

I tried to go into business for myself selling all natural dog treats. They were a big hit but selling them online was almost impossible. I find that sharing the tips I have on making these treats is just as rewarding as selling them. I will be making a dog treat cookbook that will be available for purchase on this site. Keep your eye out for it! I also like to make my own dog shampoos, dog whips, and if I have time, my own dog food. I like to know that the treats I make my dogs are natural and no danger of being recalled like so many products are today.

I'm always looking for new and fun products for my dogs. I will review anything from toys, to food, to places to board your fur babies. I will review products I use to make dog treats, and give lists of where to find all these goodies. I will also share ways to save for your doggy purchases!

Welcome to the blog and I look forward to sharing my love for dogs with everyone here on this page!! Don't forget to check out the other pages on this blog and leave comments. Only appropriate comments will be tolerated. Anything that is abusive, has cussing, or is demeaning will be removed. This is a positive and happy place! We are going to keep it that way because it's all about love and dogs!!!
